Italy Cleantech 10: Electro Power Systems
Marco Congiatu, Head of Business Development, represented Electro Power Systems at High-Level Round Table: ICT for Development and Saving Lives.
The round table, which saw high level participants of different countries, centered mainly on the effect that natural disasters have on the national economies and also people’s lives. The years 2010 – 2013 saw frequent and severe natural disasters globally including Haiti, Chile, Pakistan, Indonesia, Japan, Cape Verde, Malawi, Uganda, and in the Philippines. These disasters range from powerful earthquakes, tsunamis to flooding and super typhoons, in different degrees.
The International Telecommunication Union considers emergency telecommunications an integral part of its mandate in integrating information and communication technologies (ICTs) in disaster prediction, detection, handling and alerting.
Mr. Marco Congiatu, Head of Business Development at Electro Power Systems, declared that: «Poor backup infrastructure is a big problem for telcos today – especially when disaster strikes. Operators’ seeming resistance to change, and the apparent lack of budgets to fund new technologies, are the key challenges that we currently face».
